Pumpkin Spice season... and a little info about our programs this year.

 Dear Families and student supporters,

We have almost made it to the end of Quarter 1 here at the Junior/Senior High school.  After a 2 week shut down, lots of soul searching, and a little pumpkin spice, we are beginning October in a rather different way!

Now that we have been underway for several weeks, I wanted to explain some items that have come up about our programming this year.

We certainly still have a Face to Face option, where students attend school, as per usual with certain safeguards put into place.  Many parents have been hesitant to send students back to school because of the increase in cases in Delta county.  Once again, we are doing our part to mitigate the spread of Covid, and unfortunately that includes quarantining students who have been in close contact with a known Covid case.  Our student safety is so important to us, and we are looking into ways to ensure that students who have to spend time at home in a quarantine situation are given the opportunities to be educated as if they were in school.  Staff at the Escanaba Junior/Senior high feel the same way, so if you find your child in this situation, please do not hesitate to reach out to their teachers and ask for what you need to be successful.  At this time, this important piece is in the hands of our well-trained, professional staff, and we are all looking into the best educational solutions for kids and families in this pandemic

Livestream-Junior High:  We have (6th, 7th and 8th) core teachers doing a livestream version of their classes.  Currently their is a waitlist until Quarter 2 begins.  If your family is interested in this option, please contact the office and you can be put on the list for this option.  However, core classes will be administred through a third party called Edgenuity.  Students would log into the class at the time it is running and will be participating through Google meet.  Their assignments are given to them through Google Classroom.

Fully-Self Paced option:  We are using a third-party software in conjunction with our local teachers who will reach out to your child at least two times a week (this is necessary for us to count your child as our pupil).  Your student will also be included in a Google classroom from their core teachers.  The student will progress through the curriculum, and will be expected to complete the class on pace with the school calendar.  For example: If the class is a Quarter long class, they need to finish it during the Quarter.  If it is a semester long class, they are expected to finish it during the semester.  However, the students can complete the work at a time in the day that is most convenient for them.  Students are expected to put in 30 hours a week on the program at minimum to keep pace.

We are really working hard to bring options to our community that will support the learning of our students in different modes.  Enjoy your pumpkin spice and the fall colors around you!
